This podcast is a must-listen!

Antong’s journey of redemption was so awe-inspiring, refreshing, encouraging, and relatable. As an educator, I couldn’t help but reflect on how some of my students have succumbed to the pressure of their surroundings outside of school, and hearing his story helped me understand them on a deeper level. As a child of a father who had seasons when he was not fully and consistently present in my life, I wept when he shared his personal and “client” experiences because I felt every bit of what he described (I won’t get specific and spoil it for ya). As black person, I was rooting for this black many who used his “downfall” as a springboard for his come back…only to give back and mentor others to help change their trajectory for the better.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t share the added bonus was how Nichole interviewed Anthog. I listen to a lot of podcasts and although I enjoy a lot of them, I was starting to believe that the host could be effective without actually researching their guests. That was until I listened to Nichole. I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the fact that she not only read his book before the interview, but she referenced by intentionally drawing connections to some of Antong’s points as well as probin him to highlight and expound on other impactful work he is doing. Her thought-provoking questions and insights made Antong feel seen and heard; he even complimented her ability to effectively articulate what he was trying to convey at times. Nichole’s level of engagement had me leaning in, and her warm, genuine tone made me feel like I was welcomed in the room.
